A Mexican citizen, who was allegedly in the United States illegally, was arrested by federal law enforcement in Tompkins County, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York said.

Romero-Hernandez was in custody at the Tompkins County Sherriff’s Office awaiting resolution of NYS assault charges. ICE and Removal Operations, or ERO, provided a copy of the federal arrest warrant signed by a U.S. Magistrate Judge to the sheriff’s office.
