DETROIT - One of Michigan’s most famous Coney Island restaurants has been given the all-clear to reopen after closing due to a rat infestation. The Detroit Health Department says Lafayette Coney Island passed its reinspection on Monday, March 3, paving the way for the restaurant to reopen today.

The Detroit Health Department decided to call a press conference Tuesday to announce the reopening of Lafayette Coney Island, a month after the famous downtown attraction was shutdown due to a rat infestation.

One of Detroit’s most popular and oldest Coney Island’s was closed because of a rat problem, but now the city says they can reopen.

The most recent closure came a little more than two years after Lafayette closed Sept. 7-Oct. 15, 2022, for similar problems. The Detroit Health Department conducted two inspections before the restaurant was allowed to reopen.
