Marvel's former Captain America is the latest Avenger to deny any further return to the franchise, seemingly an obligatory claim at this point.

The MCU isn't done with the Multiverse just yet. After Kevin Feige announced Robert Downey Jr. would star as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday at San Diego Comic Con , it looked like we'd see another OG Avenger in the movie: Chris Evans.

"That's not true, though. This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple of years -- ever since Endgame. I've just stopped responding to it," Evans said about rumours of his possible return on MCU.

In Anthony Mackie’s new cover story for Esquire, Chris Evans revealed he told his Marvel co-star that he was the next Captain America in the MCU. “I inadvertently was the one who got to tell him that he was going to be Captain America. Evans returned to the MCU briefly in Deadpool and Wolverine, but as Johnny Storm, AKA the Human Torch. He hasn't played Captain America since giving up his shield in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson took over, embracing the mantle in 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
