An analysis by The Irrawaddy shows a sharp rise in the number of people killed in junta airstrikes last month. The vast majority of the victims were civilians.
Myanmar’s junta failed in its attempt to auction Aung San Suu Kyi’s lakeside mansion on Wednesday, with no bids submitted for the former democracy leader’s home – the third time the sale has flopped.
The decision is expected to affect several Myanmar towns along the border, such as Shwe Kokko in Myawaddy, Thai Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said.
The military regime has cut the town off from surrounding villages, many of which are resistance strongholds, causing an acute shortage of food and medicines for civilians.
With US$456 million invested in Myanmar last year alone, Singapore plays a substantial role in funding the junta’s abuses, be it by producing oil or paying it hard cash.
