His reboot has the benefit of an actor, David Corenswet, who may not have a lot of colors to work with, but whose presence is infinitely easier to take and less of a huge pile of smug than Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel.
There's more good news for Superman, because after soaring to the biggest Wednesday of 2025, the DC Studios movie has already grossed more than Black Adam did during its entire run at the U.S. box office.
The trade reports that the success of giving Superman a fresh coat of paint is rubbing off on Wonder Woman. Gunn, who serves as co-CEO of DC Studios along with writing and directing Superman, has previously named Wonder Woman as a tentpole of the new DC Universe along with Batman, Supergirl, and of course, the Man of Steel.
"Superman" is well-liked and should play for weeks in the U.S., but DC's path back to tentpole powerhouse status will take time.
